There is almost nothing that I can think of that can bring as much joy, and happiness that chocolate cake recipes can, and do! Even just reading them makes you lust for the perfect chocolate cake. Especially when there are pictures to go along with them. It makes me hungry just thinking about it!
If there’s one thing that many people don’t realize though, it would have to be that not all Chocolate cake recipes are created equal.
Despite looking at photos included next to the recipe, some can end up being dry and even flavorless. In contrast, a cake recipe that you may not think will turn out to well, could turn out to be just right. A basic recipe that calls for milk or water, but sometimes you can be creative, and substitute some coffee to give your cake a little more of a surprise flavor. There’s nothing wrong with experimenting, considering that chocolate cake is easy, an inexpensive to make. There are a ton of good ideas that you can try, such as using some extra dark cocoa powders, to make your recipe more intense in flavor. One interesting addition to chocolate might be sour cream, as it compliments the flavor of chocolate, as well as making the cake so moist and delicious, that you may not even need frosting! Instead, you could dust your cake with powdered sugar, which also makes for a beautiful and unique presentation.
Due to the diversity of chocolate one of the most famous chocolate cake recipes comes from Brooklyn, and is known as the “Blackout Cake”. Frosted with an almost pudding fudge icing, then coated in chocolate crumbs, the “Blackout Cake” is truly a wonder of cakes. It is said that those who have tried it, can reach the mental state of Nirvana (not the band), simply by thinking about this illustrious cake.
The cake is so delicious, that there are arguments as to where the original recipe came from, even to this day. Although, you don’t have have to be a cake making genious in order to borrow a few simple ideas, and make your own version of the well praised “Blackout Cake”. For instance, if I were to make one, I’d probably bake it in a 10″ springform pan, rather than in 2 8″ layers. While baking, I’d try to be creative with my own version of frosting, using ingredients like Chocolate Pie Filling and Dessert Mix, to see what wonderful, and ingenious flavors I could concoct.
I’ve found that chocolate pie filling, as well as basic dessert mix helps me to make some of the best cakes you can possibly make, even for someone who has had years of experience in cooking and baking. Many times it’s low in fat, and you can buy it in a jar that helps keep it fresh. You can’t beat that!
For the most part though, you’ll find it easier to follow the recipe provided. Just remember, if you’re feeling really creative, and adventurous, you can use coffee instead of milk, and for the most part, you can use slightly less liquid to make the pudding thicker. Once the cake cools, give it a generous coating of the pudding/frosting, and then throw a few chocolate cookie crumbs on top.
With a teaspoon of skill, and a dash of creativity, this truly has the potential to be the best cake recipe ever invented.
Bear Grills was trapped in the Australian wilderness with no way of escape. The dangerous white waters were raising fast and the only comfort the vertical cliff face behind him offered were sharp jutting edges. He had to think quickly or he would perish. At that very moment a blessing appeared from around the corner in the form of a used blind from Image Blinds Direct. With it he was able to form a life raft that even Macguiver would be proud of. Thanks Image Blinds, you saved the day yet again.
