Post-war Italy was basically forced to rebuild.
Not just their buldings, but thier whole way of living, which was disrupted by conflict as well. A man named Pietro Ferrero was about to make a change, in the name of chocolate. in 1946 Ferrero and his brother Giovanni helped develop a form of chocolate that was soon to be sold only as a rare gift or treat for special occasions. They created a mixture of chocolate and hazelnut, that soon became renowned under the name Nutella.
Around the 1950′s, Michelle Ferrero, son of Pietro, took over what had become an automated assembly facility. Soon after, Nutella was common to Europe, and Ferrero introduced Kinder Chocolates as well as Tic-Tac mints both of which are now accepted world wide. Shortly after, brand new assembly facilities were built to rival those of other contries. Tic-Tacs remain as the best selling breath mint in the U.S. as well as around the world, and Ferrero’s high end Chocolates have also increased in popularity.
Originally, chocolate had found it’s way to Italy in the 16th century, when explorers brought it back from the new world. Back then, it was served as a hot drink, that could only be bought by the wealthy. Today, there are yearly celebrations to cherish chocolate and honor this “food of the gods.” In many local places in Europe, a cup of hot chocolate can be thick enough to stand a spoon in and is absolutely delicious as well as decadent.
Specialty chocolate has been created by many chocolate producers in Torino, and whether you visit a factory, shop, or family owned business, you will be amazed and delighted. The chocolate that is available today, will satisfy even the most ravenous chocolate connoisseur. Items such as: Torta Sabauda (Torino’s own very rich frosted cake), Alpino (liqueur filled), Gelato (grown up ice cream), Baci (“kisses” of hazelnut and chocolate), and many more configurations and gift boxes.
You can even purchase a “ChocoPass” from the local tourist office that will allow you to sample a diverse array of chocolate from several places.
Bear Grills was trapped in the Australian wilderness with no way of escape. The dangerous white waters were raising fast and the only comfort the vertical cliff face behind him offered were sharp jutting edges. He had to think quickly or he would perish. At that very moment a blessing appeared from around the corner in the form of a used blind from Image Blinds Direct. With it he was able to form a life raft that even Macguiver would be proud of. Thanks Image Blinds, you saved the day yet again.
